Chinese business community launch bid to open new high school where 'East meets West'

The Foundation has commissioned a team to setting up a new co-educational school- The Manchester Rutherford School for students aged 11-16 at Central-South Manchester regardless of ability.

Our vision is that our students will value learning and become well-rounded, socially responsible, internationally aware young people, with the skills and knowledge required to access the best national and international universities, as well as the best regional, national and international employment opportunities.

The Manchester Rutherford School are delighted to be working with the outstanding Trinity C of E High School and Manchester Metropolitan University Faculty of Education. They are our academic, collaborative partner and together we will spread the beacon of excellence across Manchester.

The Manchester Rutherford School will teach the National Curriculum within in the wider Rutherford curriculum. Hard work and commitment to study by the whole school community, high-quality learning across the curriculum with particular emphasis on Mathematics, Science, English, Business and the Mandarin language will be key features of this school.

Within the extended day, the staff will utilise the best of British and Chinese teaching methods. These features have been successfully employed in schools which produce the highest levels of educational attainment across the globe.

This school intends to develop young people who are able to play a part in the growing importance of China and South East Asia in the global economy. In addition to promoting fundamental British values we will ensure that our young people gain an understanding of Chinese culture.

Our students will be prepared for entry into the best universities or training opportunities nationally and internationally and, in so doing, will develop knowledge and skills which will be attractive to respected employers of all types including those who have links to Chinese and South East Asian businesses.
