The Chinese community will be fundraising and collaborating with the Royal Horticultural Society in the development of the ‘Chinese Streamside Garden’ - a stunningly distinct streamside garden and woodland area within the grounds of RHS Garden Bridgewater.

 

RHS Garden Bridgewater, the fifth garden to be developed by the RHS, is one of the largest gardening projects in Europe - a long term investment for the North West that will develop over many years.

 

The project will promote engagement with  local communities via learning and skills development, improve the health and wellbeing of communities and create quality green space for the surrounding urban area.  

 

A local committee of community leaders, entrepreneurs and academics - ‘The Chinese Streamside Garden Founding Committee’ - chaired by Dr Lee Kai Hung, a retired Hong Kong businessman and philanthropist, has signed an MOU Agreement to work in conjunction with the RHS on this unprecedented project.

 

This unique opportunity will truly celebrate the important role that Chinese horticulture has played in the development of UK gardens over the last c. 300 years and symbolise a fusion of cultural identities in a peaceful woodland setting.  

 

There is also the potential for the streamside and woodland area within RHS Bridgewater to be used for demonstrations of Chinese cultural activities, as well as providing opportunities for members of the Chinese community to get involved with volunteering activities as the garden develops.

 

Dr Lee said: “I can confirm that all our Founding Committee Members are totally committed to this exciting project and will use their very best endeavours to reach our fund raising target as soon as possible.”

泮溪中国花园，是由英国皇家园艺学会开发的第五座花园，是在欧洲范围内最大型的花园项目之一，是一项对西北部地区持续多年发展的长期投资。

​

此花园项目是针对本地社区发展的长期承渃，通过提供学习和技能拓展机会、改善社区健康与良好状况，为周边城市创造优质的绿色空间。

​

 这园林项目志在弘扬中国植物在英国花园的300多年发展史中所扮演的重要角色。此外，它们也将象征和諧林地环境中多样文化共通与认同的融合。

​

我们还会利用花园来展示中国文化活动，比如太极学习班、中国园艺活动等等。在开发花园的过程中，华人社区成员还有机会参与志愿活动。
